Here's Lehamnn's URL + another thought on 'game platform' :lehman.com (hope I got it right this time, don't want to offend Addi again) Game platform - last Nov at Comdex LSI demonstrated some 'game platform'. At that time, I was speculating it was the PSII because 'nobody does a new platform just to show technology'. Now we know otherwise. Was that 'game platform' for real? Can't be Sega/Dreamcast, they went up SGI. Can't be Sony, they went with Toshiba. Can't really see another player coming into the scene. Can that be the N64 II? Or something commissioned by one of the three but then discarded because it was not 'advanced' enough? Anybody's got any info on that game platform as to how advanced it was? DVD/MPEG2? 56k modem/xDSL? 64 bit/128bit CPU? What kind of graphic? What kind of DRAM interface, Rambus or SDRAMs? PSII will not be released for some time - end of year for Japan, one whole year later for US. Guess that's the penalty for 10M transistor CPU - 0.25um as in now will not do it for power/cost and most likely even performance. Got to wait for 0.18um a whole year later. As reference, I believe the PII is only 5 to 6 M transistors and will never see 0.18um It had been rumoured that there was going to be a PS 1 & 1/2 to be released now. But that got squashed I guess. How about Nintendo? Are they going to pre-empt PSII with N64 II NOW? Remember, if the next N64 on the drawing board now & to be released in yr & a half can't match PSII, Nintendo will have to go right back to the drawing board to start from scratch. Another reason to release something NOW and get it set into the market place. I know, I am really reaching. But ever since I read about the 'new gaming platform' demonstration, I just can't stop wondering if that will see production. And if yes, for whom? Wonder if LSI's IR can shed some light on this we somebody were to ask point blank if the chip is in production. They can't review customer name until it's released (in April or May?), but they should be able to comment on whether it's in production or not. Would be quite a coup for Wilf if he snatched this account from whomever is producing the N64 now. Should be worth something significant to LSI's stock price if that is true. patrick
