They have already said in a conference call that a large media corporate investor was making an investment. As for why, it will give them more money as well as prestige that will open them to even more money. Consider what today's news about a partnership with Netscape did. Then think about what having Softbank or AOL as a CI would do.

Strategic leveraging of technological synergies equates to marketplace dominance. Want a large stake in something small or a smaller stake in something large? It's all about valuation.
