I am talking about general products. MSFT will get wider acceptance in these kind of areas as well since there is the benefit of dealing with the world's largest software company which is likely to put in newer and newer features and make sure that there is compatibility among the different packages.

I know my statement is very general. This is the Microsoft way. The way to success. No one else has the budget to do this on a huge scale as they are able to. Other companies need co-operation with others to develop compatibility. While MSFT needs this co-operation, it is not as dependent on it in their software development. In fact other companies are dependent on MSFT.

Just some random thoughts -- They may be not supported by actual industry practise but I sense that this is one of the advantages MSFT has. Bill Gates is brilliant!!! Just needs better legal advise.
