Haven't you heard? he was quoted before congress to the effect that:

"Central banks stand ready to lend/sell/lease gold to keep it under $300."(paraphrase but pretty close to what came out on Yahoo news)

If he thinks it is important I think it follows that he would use the means at his disposal to manipulate it ... don't you?
