Glaxo Wellcome Sales Force No. 1 with Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants

NEWTOWN, Pa. (BW HealthWire) - Nurse practitioners and physician assistants say Glaxo
Wellcome has the top sales force in the pharmaceutical industry, according to the health care
consulting firm Scott-Levin.

In addition to asking physicians their opinions of pharmaceutical sales forces, Scott-Levin's
Pharmaceutical Sales Force Structures & Strategies 1998-99 study asked ancillary prescribers to
rate the forces in terms of service and knowledge.

Nurse practitioners and physician assistants have limited prescribing authority in most states. Some
states also permit pharmacists to write prescriptions under certain circumstances.
