Image Ready's strengh is for example to batch resize 250 photo's for output to web. Its strengths are its web optimizations and batch capabilities.

There is a free 30 day trial on adobes web site.

You don't need photo shop. Image ready is easier than photo shop but still for more complicated than Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 that ships with your printer.

Personally I think Photo Deluxe 2.0 is pretty good. It will do what you want. I just bought two others MGI photosuite II and MS Picture It 99. MS picture it 99 us very good. I would spend some more time with photodeluxe 2.0 that came with the alps. All the other programs except picture it are harder to use.

Microsoft Picture 99 has no eval its like $50 with a $20 rebate. It requires IE 4.0 and OE be installed although according to PC world that can be removed after the fact and they will still work.
