Scumbria: OT, RE: National Labs as a Resource

Thanks for sharing the link. You were lucky to have Los Alamos nearby. They do quite a bit of educational outreach, especially for New Mexico residents.

The DOE programs are sometimes not general knowledge. More than once I went to the Governor's office to obtain applications because they were not sent to all schools routinely.

I journeyed to Los Alamos and the St. Augustine Plains one summer, just to give my son the chance to see inside a national lab and meet with a scientist about an ongoing project. I enjoyed it almost as much as he did. There were fun, unexpected stops. One in particular, when he spotted a "Cray" sign. I actually slinked in the car while he walked in (youth is brave) and asked for a manual to a Y-MP or some other computer that he had found time on but didn't have the documentation that might add efficiency and elegance to his efforts.

Thanks for reminding me of our Los Alamos adventures and alerting others to this valuable resource.

re >>I grew up in Los Alamos, and the exposure to top technology and scientists was fundamental in shaping my career choice.<<

It's too bad the Clintonistas are more interested in not offending one of their most important alleged campaign contributors than in investigating the theft of those critical technologies you grew up around.
