You have an interesting sense of humor, especially for someone who likes to paint with a broad brush. I said that there is a particular kind of decadence that I have encountered among upper- middle and wealthy kids, that is not necessarily a result of wealth, but has a certain quality among the affluent, and that Monica reminds me of those kids I have known. Her family history reminds me of the sort of families that produce such kids. It may have been unfair to associate Beverly Hills with this sort of thing to such a great extent, but it certainly goes with the image of the place. In any event, I do not know why you are harping on this. Clearly, Monica was not raised very well. Her mother may be her best friend, but she is shallow and materialistic, and her father is remote and absorbed in his career. She has been terribly indulged, and has a sensed that the world owes her success, rather than being thankful for her privileges, and determined to work hard to deserve her opportunities. She is terribly self- absorbed, and although there are poor people like that, it is mainly the wealthy who can afford that degree of narcissism, because they can afford to "find themselves", and pay for expensive shrinks to get in touch with their inner child, or go to places like Esalen to discover their bliss. She didn't grow up in a vacuum.
