Gregor,

Reading your post a verse comes quickly to mind,...

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. II Cor. 12:9

Perhaps my friend, what you are perceiving as your weakness is deemed by the Lord, and others as opportunity to bring glory to His name.

Some of the best leaders I've met in my job have always thought they were falling short of the mark.

God bless you and yours throughout this day,
John

Gregor:

Very timely that you post this message to me. My church, too, is about to enter a very important transitional phase. We are still a small church of about 75 attending on a regular basis and some Sundays up in the 90s. Our facilities are quite small, will hold about 100 or so if we are all very close. We have felt a mighty move of God and feel that growth in terms of the size of the congregation is upon us and that our current facilities will hold us back. We have about 4 acres of property and could easily expand on the current property, but we are pretty much off the "beaten path" and some feel we should pack up and change locations. I will certainly pray for your church during this decision making time. Please pray for mine as well.

As for your being asked to take a leadership role in your church, I am certain that your pastor prayed very carefully before approaching you about being on the Board of Elders. Don't forget that many of God's servants were reluctant to follow the call (Moses for example who argued with God about his qualifications). I will also pray for you as you enter this new leadership role. I have been on what we call the Church Board which is the same as your Board of Elders I am sure for some eight years now. In a church as small as ours, you often find one person doing several jobs as I am sure you recall from the days when your church was small.

May the Lord bless your church mightily and may he use you in mighty ways as you enter into a leadership role in your church.

In Christ, Tom
