Looks like "critical mass" in investor psychology towards SFE has been reached today. Now $47 3/4 on 500K sh. Since this move up started from a much higher base than the first run [Jan-early Feb.] it is probably stating the obvious that SFE should finally blow through the 3 year triple top with conviction and continue much higher over the next days and months. A month ago, average trade was around 600 sh., now it is around 1,000. Part of critical mass being achieved is sudden frantic demand creating a huge jump in price, and that action alone catching the attention of others wondering why, investigating, [or not], and jumping aboard to catch the next big wave [dare we say CMGI] which causes further price jumps and recognition and so on. Almost repulsive to some, because it speaks of mania, greater fool theory, and mass [hysteria] psychology run amok, but played carefully with recognition of the forces at work can be very profitable [demand is still Demand]. The confluence of a lot of forces are coming together right now. VERT at $120, widespread and new recognition that bus. to bus. internet is where the big money will be, soon ICG which looks like it will have a rather mind bending market cap. when it trades and SFE's 26% and in the background, CMGI and so many people who would love to get in on the ground floor on that kind of action. The gasoline has been all over the floor, today someone threw a match. No turning back. Mike

John, weren't you going to add VERT to your NAV home page? I forgot what the SFE interest is and I always look to you to know such things <g>

New to this stock, so I really appreciated the NAV spreadsheet.

Have you, or anyone, attempted to value the holdings in private companies, particularly ICG? For that matter, does ICG report their percentage ownership in VERT and other holdings? Are any ICG holdings scheduled to IPO?

How does SFE derive revenues?

Thanks in advance. This seems like a "safe" way to play internet stocks.

If fundamentals are what they appear, Sanchez SCAI $20, appears to be a good buy. $.64 '99 est., and $.95 '00 est. [48% growth] at 21X '00. Stock buyback is substantial if carried out. This stock has made wide swings the past couple of years between upper teens and low 30s, meanwhile growth has been good. Technically, oversold. This is one rights offering I sold early, and have been wanting to get back into, today fit the bill. Anyone noticed that about half of the market seems to be in a neutral to bear market? So many peaked mid '98 and are not even close to those highs. Virtually all of SFE's previous rights offerings are in that category with one notable exception, Tellabs, which they acquired through the back door and have been selling in the 40s on up I believe. So far the strategy of selling the winner TLAB and recycling part of the proceeds into the "dogs" hasn't paid off, as the dogs slip and TLAB pushes higher. Other uses of the proceeds in private investments have probably been good. Thank goodness for ICG because if SFE had to trade off it's NAV stocks it would make for some unhappy reading. So far SFE has been handling normal profit taking after the big day splendidly as there are buyers waiting for any weakness to pounce. Mike
