konehead a caution:

i believe in front office and i believe that vantive is fixable. however, i do not think there will be any upside surprises near term and the street will be unimpressed with meeting estimates that are still negative year over year.

take my mistake; i bought clarify too early. you could have purchased as much clarify as you wanted AFTER they reported their september quarter (or even during that quarter if your channel checks told you how well things were going) and made 90% of the upside without the long holding period or the risk that they couldn't fix things.

vantive's year over year comparisons start getting easier right as the market starts worrying about y2k. Why not wait to see how the market fear is handled and the evidence is in that vantive CAN execute and CAN manage through any y2k slowdown. perhaps you'll give up a few points, but if things start working at vntv, there will be plenty of room beyond the first few points.

The only risk is a potential buyout, the only likely player being oracle. We know it's been looked at before, but larry claims to have 600 developers in this space. buying vntv would be quite an admission of failure for those efforts. (Go media server!)
