The original observation was that poor women are fat and poor men are skinny, while rich men tend to be fat and rich women skinny. Diet can't be it, because poor men eat the same food that poor women do. I think Cobalt is on track; poor women tend to have more kids then rich ones. Poor men, of course, are more likely to do manual labor then rich ones.
