(OT) Dennis: Hmmmmm.....THAT's interesting. But software's one thing, equipment compatibility is another(both for the end user as well as whatever enhancements are required to the power grid). Still, thanks for the data. I can see this application lending itself to all kinds of uses, not the least of which would be the remote "meter reading" aspects to the utilities themselves. And I wonder how long it would be before the first ISP provider appeared using some sort of company name like, "Sparky?" Heh!

John~

Dennis.

I was intrigued by this post. Thank you.

RWE of Germany has developed software which allows data transmission over electrical power lines......

More information and verification can be found by going to company's link, which is rwe.de It can be read in English.

It seems that this would put the regional bell telephones as well as long distance telephone companies on the defensive as to monthly charges for dedicated lines and provider services.

"In future, not only electricity will be provided by power lines and wall outlets, data and human voices will also be able to shoot over the lines." Company employs 160,000 people!

Direct English version is
rwe.de
