This is how my discount brokerage defines the meaning of "Ask" and "Bid":

Asked price

Commonly called the "ask" and synonymous with offer price. It is the lowest price at which shares of a security are offered for sale. This is the best price indication for someone wishing to purchase the security. During market hours, this price can be changing moment to moment, so the execution price you receive upon entering a market order can differ from the asked price you were quoted.

Bid price

The highest price which another person or a market maker is willing to pay to acquire a security. This is the best price indication for someone wishing to sell the security. During market hours, this price can be changing moment to moment, so the execution price you receive upon entering a market order can differ from the bid price you were quoted.

FWIW,
