I am a lurker. Read a lot but usually don't post. I was on vacation when CPQ tanked. Did CPQ come out and say there was a slowdown or did some analysts from Merill or somewhere else venture a guess that there was a slowdown? I thought the most interesting thing in the MSFT call was the statement concerning PCs. I would tend to believe MSFT over an analyst but would lend more credence to CPQ than MSFT when it comes to news about a PC slowdown.

Does anyone know?

I guess investors expected more than 'meeting' the estimates.

Re : Big news here is that they "see the PC market as FINE". In other words, no unexpected slowdowns in the PC business this quarter.

I assume MSFT has no preference as to whether $799 computers or $2000 computers are what is selling, while CPQ and DELL really do care.
