taxman, good to hear from you. I like your input. We need to develop a dialogue. As for an explanation on why MSFT has to defer to $400 MM, see post 17753, its a pretty good technical explanation from a GAAP perspective as to what applies in accounting terms. The reason why MSFT has to wait until Q4 to recognize the $400 MM on Office 97 is due to its shipment date in April. If it was shipped in March, then they would recognize the deferred income this Quarter. I hope this helps. What are your overall thoughts on the preannouncement? How long have you owned MSFT, are you a trader, investor or both, and what are your goals for holding it? Teflon
