Or put another way....

Office 2000 sales already worth $400M

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT) told financial analysts today to expect the company to defer $400 million of unearned revenues resulting from Office 2000 coupons included with new PCs since the start of the year. But Microsoft officials added that its expected increased investment income should offset this "timing swing," allowing the company to post FY '99 third quarter estimates in line with the Street's consensus. Office 2000 is expected to be released to manufacturing on March 29 and to ship to customers in April. Full story to come. -- John G. Spooner, PCWeek Online
