Borders Plans To Open New Stores In Texas, N.C., N.Y.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Dow Jones)--Borders Group Inc. (BGP) plans to open new Borders Books & Music stores in Texas and New York in the summmer, and in North Carolina during fall.

In a press release Wednesday, Borders said the stores in Austin, Texas; and in Victor, N.Y., will be its second in those markets.

The North Carolina store will be Borders' third operation in Raleigh.

All three stores will be 25,000 square feet and are among the 45 to 50 stores the retailer of books, music and video plans to open in the U.S. in 1999.

Five new stores in international locations are planned during 1999.
