t2k, regarding the Q3 revenue projections:

I think the Dell situation was what spurred this call. If they did not explain this now, it would have been tougher to deal with at earnings release (i.e., any potential revenue shortfall due to accounting and timing). This was a great move by MSFT and frankly, they did the whole market a favor.

Moreover, I would expect MSFT to still hit $4.6 Billion in Q3 even with this deferment of the $400 MM. Even though Maffei has explained the scenario, I still believe MSFT does not intend to fall short on the revenue side. DELL's recent Q was a tell tale example of what can happen to even the strongest of stocks.

A great press release for many reasons the more I think about it...
