Gene: < PPOD, Short > Two Chain Supermarkets in my area have tried on line Groceries. One dropped it after a few months. They do still offer it to shut in's and such, but basicly they have stopped the online Grocery stuff.

The other, the service is SO BAD that you would not want to do it again.

Maybe a Nationwide Online Grocery service might find a way, in the future, to make a profit at it. I think that future is a long ways away.
PPOD is a short term short sell, for ME. But even longer term, the concept does not thrill me. Maybe based on my experance with online Grocery or maybe I just feel that NOT EVERYTHING can be sold Profitably on the Internet, in the near future.
The media has people beleiving that the Internet is EVERYTHING, it's not. MANY things will always need some face to face contact. IMO

Who is going to buy produce and meat without seeing it first?

Ahem... Me? I use homegrocer.com in the Seattle area. We've generally been satisfied with the produce purchases (we don't buy much meat). They bring the groceries right into our kitchen.

Doesn't mean PPOD's not a short. But... this business may well take off eventually. For busy people, it's an incredible convenience, and cuts out a lot of runs to the grocery store. Don't be too quick to discount it.
