With Dreyfus Brokerage, formally Pacific Brokerage, you log in once and you will remain logged in until you close your browser.

Fred, Brownco does not time out. I've been logged on for several days if i didn't have to reboot my isp. Discover times out after about an hour. larry

Hello, Fred.

I have both because I wanted to evaluate them, and then never bothered changing. I like the idea of a backup.

My post may have given the impression that both ABW and MBT are paradise. Needless to say, they have their glitches and frustrations, screen freezes, slow or "bursty" quotes. But when the system does work it is a lot easier to trade than any web-based broker I've come across.

Another point - you do have to trade a lot to bring the data charges down, and both ABW and MBT are more expensive than most web-based brokers.

Fred,

DATEK does not time out either and their executions and confirmations are far better than what Tom described. You would definitely want to use the express servers - the password confirmation is on the same screen as the order - Single click to place the order.

They have streaming quotes for free, but it is sometimes hard to get on that system. They do tend to get bogged down a bit at the open and close, but thats usually for the quotes only. Never had a problem placing a timely trade.

They are also the best broker site for realtime quotes. If you use Medved QuoteTracker, you can use their data feed to get self updating portfolios and intraday charts with Technical Indicators
