Not much change for the week. The group sum is slightly lower than
last week, but it rounds off as a net "0" for the week. The SOX-X
took it in the "shorts" a little more and wound up the week with a
loss of 3 percent.

18 stocks were up, 2 stayed the same and 21 were down. 6 stocks were
up more than 10 percent while 3 stocks were down 10 percent or more.
As far as the group is concerned, the first 2 weeks in March have
been a net "zero".

Joe, I like the last line in your post, ....... "Also, note that the
time to buy a company is when no-one is interested." ........ That
sure fits for the last 2 weeks - the DOW threw a party, but the
semi-equips were wallflowers. I think what the group needs now is
for some good earnings reports for a few of the stocks. They have
recovered from their grossly oversold position of last October - but
now they need to show they can make some money. The group, as a
whole, is up 11 percent from its low point on 4/25/97 - that is
nearly 2 years ago. As a "buy and hold" group, the returns have been
very meager. Some very good money could have been made, however, if
the peaks and valleys were timed properly.
