GE satellite failed, but service partly restored
NEW YORK, March 12 (Reuters) - A communications satellite spun out of control early Friday morning, cutting service to several media and broadcast companies in North America for almost four hours.

The GE-3 satellite, operated by a General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE - news) unit, tilted away from Earth shortly after 0400 EST/0900 GMT, disrupting service to radio, television and media companies such as Associated Press Radio. GE returned the satellite to its proper position and began restoring service to customers at about 0730 EST/1230 GMT, a spokeswoman for the GE unit said.
