Kevin, the "switch" is an in-house project and as such, has yet to be released to the public. The only "details" available are from the cc, unless someone has contacted the R+D dept to learn more? A good person to ask would be Hawaii, perhaps he can help provide some sort of Contact for Information...I take note that IDT, swooned a TOP Nortel Executive to help specifically with the continued development and deployment of the XNET-switch.

cheers

The question was: "Are there any published reports on this switch from unbiased sources? I heard comments about it in the conference call, but I struggle with this company being a hardware supplier."

Not that I know of, but why the struggle. It's just business. I personally own my own business, and there is not much to it if you want to just start doing something else. If you've already been doing business, you already know alot about what you have to do to get something else going. No big deal, especially if it's such an outrageous business proposition like their switch seems to be.

Here is what is said about the switch in the most recent 10K. They developed it out of their most recent acquisition of Interexchange.

"Acquired Research and Development. In May 1998, the Company completed its acquisition of InterExchange. The Company's statement of operations for Fiscal 1998 reflects a non-recurring charge of $25.0 million, representing the portion of the purchase price paid for InterExchange allocated to the in-process research and development of alternative switching and compression technologies.

In order to determine the amount of this charge, the Company allocated the excess purchase price over the fair value of InterExchange's net tangible assets acquired to identified intangible assets. In performing this allocation, the Company considered, among other factors, the research and development projects in-process as of the date of acquisition.

The Company intends to incur $1.0 to $1.5 million, related primarily to the compensation of employees involved in the completion of these projects, to develop the in-process technology into commercially viable products over the next 12 months. Remaining development efforts are focused on software development and testing, and completion of these projects will be necessary before any revenues will be produced. The Company expects to begin to benefit from the purchased in-process research and development in Fiscal 1999. If these projects are not successfully developed, the Company may not realize the value assigned to the in-process research and development projects."

Kevin, although the switch is just another potential plus, and they could steal some business if it performs and is as cheap as suggested, here is what ALA said last Thursday regarding their switching business...

"I am still keeping the 8% target in view, but we are taking longer than I had hoped due to the slowdown in the [telecom] switching market," he said.

Not trying to irk anyone, and the stocks momentum seems to have little to do with switchs at the moment, but wanted to share information I was following up on.
