Corel bundeled with new machine, they expect to sell 500,000 very soon.

Microworkz Computer Corp. said it will sell a full-featured personal computer for just $299, turning up the heat in the increasingly competitive sub-$500 PC market.

Like most other sub-$500 PCs, those from Seattle-based Microworkz won't include a monitor, which can cost an additional $100 or more. But the company's Webzter Jr., which features a 300-megahertz microprocessor from National Semiconductor Corp.'s Cyrix unit, will come bundled with a year of free, unlimited Internet service, courtesy of fast-growing Internet provider EarthLink Network Inc., and a software suite from Corel Corp.

Shootout looms at not-so-OK Corel
A year ago, shareholders wanted CEO Michael Cowpland's head. Fortunes haven't improved, but is it Mr. Cowpland's fault? Christopher Guly reports.
...Corel is blaming its poor financial performance on a drop in demand for its WordPerfect word-processing software and the CorelDraw graphics program, both of which haven't had new versions in 24 months and 18 months respectively. However, Corel plans to begin shipping WordPerfect Office Suite 2000 and CorelDraw 9 Graphics Suite next month to be in stores by May.

Corel: Mac development on track
...Gauthier said the company is "continuing to work on that issue" and wants to "present a full package to Mac users." However, she said, the impending release of major updates to several other software packages forced WordPerfect for the Mac to be put on a back burner.
