Dear Bert: Having the best product does not insure success. Its marketing and contacts that count. If Bill Gates wants the Chinese market he will have it. Thats my opinion. JDN

I'd like to add: He who can afford volume production gets the lowest
price. Price breaks between 10k, 100k, and over 1 million on chips
can blow your mind. The cost of cranking up a line for production
is quit high. Once running on volume, it's drop very dramatically.
I've seen easily 1/5 price reductions on volume with extended
contracts. Example: 1 million per month on a 10 month contract for
28.8k modems back when.... 10k per month was but a pain in the ass. It
only serves to disrupt production runs on other devices. It's not like
there's one line for one product. 100% equipment utilization is the
goal. Breaking down equipment for resetup is non-productive time.
The real world. MUCP better come in with big order numbers. I've
seen 98% utilization. Minimum products with maximum volume. All else
is to maintain customer relations for future volume contracts.
