Unfortunately. People like "rrman" have little empathy for or appreciation of those who actually have the responsibility for large decisions. It is easy for them to assume that someone like George H.W. Bush had no more thought to the people dying (on both sides) as a result of his resolve to challenge the Iraqis than of pawns in a chess set, and that therefore it is plausible that their motives were cynical. In reality, Bush probably suffered many a sleepless and fretful night. I didn't have to make the decision, I merely supported it, and I know that I felt for the poor bastards that Saddam put forth as cannon fodder, and had a few nightmares myself.
