I don't think this is the case. Chinese are very practical. As of early last year, export industry only accounted for 20-25% of the total output. So it was not in the best interest of the Chinese people in general to devalue. As for that "totalitarian" part, I can only say you read too much into the US media. I don't want to start an argument about politics.
