The market reacts to NSM performance:

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Semiconductor stocks inched lower Friday
morning after chip-maker National Semiconductor gave a not-so-bright
outlook for its fourth quarter.

National Semiconductor (NSM) recorded a
third-quarter loss of 16 cents a share vs. analysts'
estimates of a 20-cent loss. Despite the
better-than-expected results, microprocessor sales
and orders declined sequentially, indicating
weakening demand.

The chip maker said it's heading into its fourth
quarter "more cautiously" than originally expected
due to "competitive uncertainties in the personal
computer markets.

Cannot NSM just be honest and admit that their product cannot compete againts Intel? The demand for PIII is brisk (INTC executive) and PC demand is strong Mafeii). Using NSM excuse is like Venator saying the the retail sector is soft because Venator sales are not strong.
