QuentR: Good for you, every little helps! I still think that COMPAQ planned on beating the original estimates handily. Any reduction in their expectations will still bring it in over the original estimates. This is still consistent with their statement that they will meet current estimates.

I think all the rumour and the complaints and enquiries will cause EP to make some calming move when he is absolutely sure that he will meet consenus estimates, which should be within a week or ten days. I don't think he will address himself to the details brought up by analysts. He will find some other way of conveying that CPQ is comfortable with estimates and reserve anything over and above estimates as a surprise. Analysts will seek to justify their "panic" by putting their emphasis on the future - worrying away at YK2 issues and any systemic slowdown in the PC market.

CPQ will have to work at its image of a diversifed IT company.
