Keep in mind that the release so far only states that the
*development environment* for PS2 will be available on Linux.
This means a cross-compiler will be available which takes
the source created on a Linux system to the binary format for
the PS2.

Linux right now isn't the greatest when it comes to real-time
performance. The graphics system in PS2 is completely different
than that used in X so it isn't just a basic port of Linux to
PS2 hardware. The PS2 isn't the same as an SGI system either
so they have to rewrite the graphics system and port the kernel
which is a significant amount of work.

What it does mean is that it will be cheaper for PS2 game
developers to buy computers to do development work.
