mmv commented on a "short short" rule. i thought he meant "short sale rule" and was talking about uptick restriction...he clarified to me with this

Short-short rule is (was) for large funds who were restricted to sell within 90 days (I think) period of acquring a stock. Of course, exceptions could be made. If you are MF manager and bought MU today, you would have been restricted in selling it in that period. They changed that law effective Fall of 1997.
Earlier, if you were to paint the tape by buying some puny no of shares at the close to mask your day long selling, you would have to hold the new buys for at least that period. Now, you can turnaround and sell your new buy tomorrow. (I am not very sure how it really worked. MB used to explain it in detail you better ask him.)

can you comment?

To All, Gee, it has been a long time since anyone has called me a moron for my opinion on Brightpoint (Cell). Of course, those slimers are all on welfare now, so maybe they can't afford to connect to the Net. I wanted to copy a chart of Cell, but I had to load the printer with legal size paper to capture the gravity of the last move down. <g> Ah, it feels good when a plan comes together. Just wish I'd kept rolling down my puts instead of taking the easy money and doing my usual mid teen exit.
