Cheeky:

Respectfully, the Boston Herald article did not quote a NERC official as saying nuke plants will be Y2K ready. <<''We're confident the situation is under control,'' said Elizabeth A. Hayden, deputy director of public affairs for the NRC. ''We've had a fair amount of attention paid to making plants Y2K-ready.''>>

Let's be careful out there. If you want to post 'good news' articles, make sure that your summary doesn't overstate the good news.

I'm waiting with interest to see if any nuclear generating plants will be closed down - or stood down - as explained in my earlier post. Wherever there are safety issues (nuclear power, chemical processing, pipelines, etc) I believe that you will see many systems taken down before 01/01 and then carefully brought back up. Hayden's comments in this article do not rule out that NERC could decide to do just that. As nuclear plants supply 40% of this country's electricity, taking down even a few would impact the overall system.
