Fine. Steal my ideas and claim they are your own. Collect the Nobel prize. Go ahead. Let me sell pencils on Wall street.

The tragedy here is that if every machine can display and print what any other computer has created with every nuance of formatting recreated short of stretching the paper and restarting the daisy wheel factory then people will have no reason to give their Mac to the homeless and buy a computer.

An XML based GUI?

Interestingly enough we are currently discussing GUI development
on a project mostly unrelated to Linux and XML presentation is
one of the topics in consideration. A second Document presentation
version of IBM's SOM, and Java APIs are others.

Microsoft has recently announced their BizTalk Server which is
an XML implementation. Together with their DNA system, they want to
create the future of document views (rather than desktop views).
Fairly dangerous for one single company to have control of. They
could even become... ahem... a monopoly on future EDI/XML technology.
