jim and John thanks for your answers. The more you learn the more you don't know. If the telephone company lets other companies use their central office then can the internet service providers install their own ADSL equipment, splitters and all? If you have ADSL with a splitter can you use your telephone (voice) and computer (data) at the same time over one telephone line? If so maybe this is another reason the telephone company doesn't want you to have a splitter being the cheap they are. Can one install their own splitter?

Is the telephone company going to charge extra for ADSL installation and how much?
From what I hear here it looks like the ADSL companies may go up on news of getting contracts and then go down when competition lowers the prices of ADSL equipment.
