Hi LJM,

One consideration you haven't mentioned is Silicon Germanium technology which is still in a developmental stage at AMCC. The basic science and research for this semiconductor was performed by IBM, which has licensed AMCC to continue the development. Expected commercial quantities about the 2002-3 time frame. Gonna be hot at the 10 Gigabit level. In the mean time GaAs will do just fine for 2.5 Gig work. I own both companies, couldn't decide who would be the best long term bet. The only technology on the horizon that could upset this apple cart is optical wave guides, now demonstrated in the lab at Akzo Nobel at .25 micron. This, if the kinks can be worked out, will be the ascendant technology going forward. Still a mighty big if, IMO.

Best, Ray

Unfortunately, as nature would have it, I am way too stupid to have a clue, but I have enough intelligence to follow the smart people.
