Paul,

Re: AMD buyout.

In the hypothetical case if Intel bought out AMD for say $30/share.

This would translate to less than a $5/share for Intel.

They would gain from the flash.
They would dump the Vantis to somebody for free.
And offer the 2 MegaFabs fabs to somebody like TSMC to do general purpose foundry.

The K7 would fit nicely in their product plans.

Intels stock would immediately rocket by more than $5/share just do to lower compeitiion and higher ASPs/MArgins for the rest of the product lines.

Of course Intel would want to do such a deal, if it was legal.

Unfortunately it would never be allowed by the regulatory authorities.

A mo better plan would be for them to pay some-one to buy AMD and shut down the x86 operation on the sly.

regards,

Kash

Paul - RE: "Moreover, AMD's fabs are not for sale, Intel doesn't need them, Intel doesn't want them."

Yeah, why would Intel want another fab when they keep DELAYING when to make one of their own - the Fort Worth, TX one.

Paul,

Re: "Fixing broken machinery is often much more complex than building well designed
machines from scratch."

Paul, this kinda reminds me of purchasing "old British" cars ... You know
Lucas Electric problems. One solution was to purchase an identical car
to be used for "parts". Thus if Intel would purchase MegaFlop 25 (tm PREngel),
maybe AMD would throw in Dresden (Fab 30) as a "parts Fab". <ggg>

Make It So,
