Dow 1000 was a tough one to break through.
I'm squinting at the charts in my old SRC Blue Book (remember those?)
Market touched 1000 in early 1966
Didn't break through in a significant way until late 1982, 16+ years later.

Interesting. You are lucky to have the historical perspective. You may want to check out the article on page C1 in today's WSJ that discusses Dow 1000 and Dow 10,000.
