larry, I think Mr. Dell greatly underestimated the markets reaction to a slight sales miss when he knew his EPS were going to make it. I expect he will not make the same mistake again. Unfortunately its a mistake that may take a year or so before the DELL faithful put it behind them.

I also firmly believe that this is the exact reason why MSFT made this announcement, even though they probably could have covered it up in their Q results. They did not want ANY confusion in the market when they report their results. On the upside, I think it makes it easier for them to report a positive surprise.

I think the PC segment is at its worse moment in the quarterly cycle (trading wise) and that things should start to improve. I bought CPQ today for many reasons, reasons that relate to their business outside of their ability to sell PCs. Even if they preannounce, I think CPQ at 30 is a bargain.

MSFT will roar into their split. History is on our side. I also think they have the next two weeks orchestrated to support this positive momentum. They did not make the announcement yesterday in a vacuum. This action is scripted carefully.

larry, re anticipated "powerful rally" in days before split...
seems likely a lot of tech investors are gonna move $s from
companies who are warning & disappointing to mr softee...
before split but especially BEFORE earnings season.

msft is the one tech co that gave a fair amount of positive
guidance

i backed out of dell & loaded up on msft. if & when dell
cpq disappoint again it will be bloody...too many negative comments out there for me to risk it. msft has yet to show
any weakness. move toward the net is comforting

MSFT holds pretty well so far and the volatility is really driven by daytraders and momentum investors trying to squeeze another buck here and there. Those who sold out at the end to close the position before the weekend are the ones that will likely get in next Monday. Unfortunately, maybe at a higher price.

I know the feeling--Now i use the opportunity to buy more. (I did sell on Thursday only to buy back on Friday at a slightly lower price-----but I waited too long expecting 155 which never happened).

Two week run-up to the split is believed to happen according to an options newsletter I read. Friday was the best buying opportunity we will see for a long time.

It is because Microsoft has delayed Windows 2000, that Dell had slowing revenues. Lets put the blame squarely where it belongs, on the slug, overly cocky msft! Get real!
