BRK.A vs BRK.B

bigredfreak wonders "Here's dumb question ... is there any difference (besides price and daily trade volume) in buying BRKA versus BRKB?"

Well, BRK.B is 1/30th the price of BRK.A. It has only 1/200th the voting interest, but that doesn't matter much, since Buffett & Munger have voting control, anyway.

You can split one BRK.A into 30 BRK.B, but you can't join them back together. This guarantees that BRK.B won't be worth much more than 1/30th of a BRK.A, but doesn't keep it from going lower. However, if you check the charts, I think you'll see that they've stayed pretty well aligned.

The B share has 1/30th the voting power of the A share -- if I'm wrong, someone please correct me. Also you can convert an A share into 30 B shares BUT you cannot convert 30 B shares into one A share. It's a one-way street.

I'm pretty sure this information is at BRK's Web site. Go see for yourself.

Dick Smith is right: 1 B share has 1/200th voting power of an A share.
Also Class B shares cannot participate in the company's contribution program for charities. In this program, a registered holder of a class A share can designate recipients of charitable contributions by the company.
