My sleep is not troubled -- I have a lot of cash.

I thought it strange to be lectured on "why investors invest", but I tried to respond in kind. Please see my dialog with Bukun to see what I think of Dell's growth prospects.

On specific issues:

Dell has launched a multipronged marketing offensive

Indeed they have. I find it a negative indicator when a strong competitor strays from its core competency.

the high end: (servers and mass storage)

This area is populated with many strong competitors, in contrast to the direct-sales area when Dell focused on it.

the lower end (inexpensive PCs)

Three problems here: margins, margins, and emachines.

the retail market (through gigabuys)

Similarly: margins, margins, and heavy competition.

Dell may take over IBM PC assembly and distribution

This would seem to be excellent. Nevertheless, the day that news hits the wires, I will buy more puts. Dell's success is not based on contract manufacturing -- an arena beset with three problems...

Good luck to you,

mb
