Scott--do you know this Iowa firm who gave Dell a BUY in Barron's--->
(This is from the 3/15 issue under "Market Lab: Research Reports")

by Securities Corp. of Iowa (83, Feb. 18)
Strong Buy. Other companies, such as Compaq, which sell
[directly to consumers] have attempted to copy Dell's business
model, with some success. Others, like NEC, have failed in the
attempt. However, Dell remains the only major PC company that is a
''pure-play'' on the direct model, since it doesn't sell through the
direct channel or retailers. Gateway, the other major direct-seller, is
building a network of retail stores. We think Dell will continue to gain
market share over channel participants. The recent acceleration in
hardware technology progress sparked by the processor pricing
war between Intel and AMD only makes the direct model more
compelling. As processor prices decline, Dell is able to pass on the
savings faster than most competition. Thus, it retains the edge.

Scott,
Hi!!!

RE: <<YOU CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH DELL>>

I really don't know when I actually started telling folks this ....I do recall that quite awhile ago I was chatting with some people who work for IBM...while discussing some of my interpretations of what the possibilities were with Virtual Integration vs. the "old true blue way"...I mentioned this quote...they never countered...so, I keep using it.. :o)

Best, Kemble
