I was in that musical!!!! Reno SWeeny!!!Tapdanced my little heart out. BUT---something you said reminded me of something. (can you tell the champagne has kicked in) Most of the oldtimers know that I was a female juvenile probation officer just out of college-- BAck then (1970) there was an offense called "habitually disobedient and beyond control" (hey! You might have qualified???)Most of my cases fell under this--it just meant that they had parents who were completely clueless. My first case was a beautiful 14 year old who had an ex-military father who was a total asshole-she ran away all the time because she didn't know what else to do...I inherited her.. and my very first week on the job, I got a call from the police asking me to come to Susan's house. When I got there (ooo-and I had a county car with a police radio! I was UNIT 113!!!!! 10-4, 10-13, 10-20!~!) Susan had her father backed against the wall and she was waving one of those giant wooden fork things at him that they had gotten in the Philippines. THe spoon was still hanging over the couch. The police were standing around, hands on their guns, looking befuddled, probably wondering if a 5 foot wooden fork constituted a lethal weapon. It was so funny that I just cracked up. Susan looked at me and said, "What's so fucking funny?" I said, "C'mon, do you think you're going to barbeque him?" And she started to laugh, and then she and I went and got in my car and drove away. I got called on the carpet for it, but it was my first week so my boss, the chauvinist who wouldn't let me wear pants, let me off. I was the bane of his existence. I think I was a terrible probation officer, although from the vantage point of years, I may have been the best thing those girls had---because I loved them a lot and saw wonderful things in them and I stood up for them -gosh-I was only a few years older than they were. And even as young as I was, I knew that these parents were so damn WRONG.
