Unfortunately GoNorth, I have never ever been in the retail business, so I can't help you on that one. But I have to guess that one that carries no inventory, warehousing, shipping (other than the sports cards - does Bid.Com do the shipping?), etc. might be able to deal with less margins than one that does.

Btw, I have no visions of grandeur for Bid.Com, personally I'd be really happy if it hit the all-time high again and I was lucky enough to realize that's as far as it was going to go (if that was indeed the case) and sell it.

Nice of you to be be so presumptuous, though, I was just inviting conversation.

Denise.

EDIT: Why don't you be a little enterprising and try to find out the information yourself?

GoNorth..

Do you know what the margin was in there first year of operation?

This would be a useful comparison. It is my understanding that young companies undergo something called economies of scale. The way I understand it is that, you can't go out and start your own business and be competitive immediately because start up cost will cut into your margins. As your business becomes refined and the need for capital investment is reduced, margins grow.

As business grows, sales grow. As sales grow, user cost is reduced and marginal return is increased. Margins are further increased.
