LOL Steve. I think the bottom line is that the ECN's will usher in a level playing field pre/post regular trading hours for retail investors which does not exist today. Most likely the market will find it's own hours between 8am and 6pm.

Here's an example:

Joe Client goes long IMCL before the close on anticipation of a gap the next day. Joe clients uses Order Flow Securities Inc. to trade through.Order Flow Securities Inc does not offer pre market trading.
The next day Joe Client watches Time & Sales for IMCL. IMCL trades up 2 bucks on heavy volume before fading back below the previous close in pre market trading. IMCL fades further from the open and Joe Client ends up selling the IMCL for a 1/2 point loss.
