Ole 49er: You never miss a beat. Your incisive addendum to my comments regarding the Ft Knox training film are duly noted. Mobilization exercises in the Army and NatGuard appear to be geared towards a "civilian scenario". Who knows, maybe we'll see a new Army recruitment ad - a revival of the advertisement to "Put a Tiger in Your Tank."

I found this film mildly interesting because the creators only touched upon the historical context of the 30's, a period which spawned the need for a well fortified gold vault. It was during this time when large-scale disruptions, civil riots and the like, broke out. The combination of troop mobilizations, tank team training, the 1930's, secrecy about gold, nuclear terrorism, surveillance and emergency response preparedness made this an intriguing film from a contemporary perspective.

Y2K may be just a dress rehearsal for the large scale, chronic disruptions which may ensue should a deflation occur. Already, in our country's back yard, in Ecuador, tanks are rolling to prevent riots and looting in an economy collapsed.

...but I never will forget seeing them get shuffled around on flatbed trailers during those endless manuevers which tied up American's coldwar highways back then...

Uh.. 49r... Why the heck were the highways built in the first place??

Do you believe they were built to solely for the purpose of giving 18 wheelers a quick way to haul goods from point A to point B??

Do you know why overpasses had a certain height standard? They were set that way so that America's mobile Atomic Cannon had the necessary clearance.

Btw, we got the idea from Hitler's Autobahns which served the same purpose there. And they got the idea from the Roman roads.

And if you don't think Americans will open-fire on American's...
well you just haven't been following the Ft. Bragg/Kingsville and Corpus Christi live-fire in civilian towns excercises currently documented and under the properly chagrined nose of George Bush's much loved son/progeny...

Nope, I don't. They'll just shoot at people like yourself... :0)

Beyond that, I believe the military has discovered from disasters like Mogadishu, that they just don't have the adequate training facilities to conduct Urban Warfare properly. Training sites are expensive and don't fully represent the actual environment they find themselves in.

I suggest you get out of the US while you still can. It's obvious you don't trust your fellow Americans and expect a confrontation. It's probably not safe for you here.

May I suggest Russia or Colombia as a safer place to call home??

Regards,

Ron
