>>From what I was told by someone who uses both Avatar and Zips on notebooks, Avatar's speed is astounding compared to the Zips (difference of 10 minutes vs. 40 minutes). <<

That someone must have been comparing the parallel port Zip to the Avatar, which uses a PCMCIA IDE interface.

ATAPI and SCSI Zips are significantly faster.

As for price, Iomega has always stated that their eventual goal was a $99 external Zip. They also said that they would hit that goal only when they had reduced costs to the point where they could sell the drive profitably at that price. I doubt they are losing money on them.

ORB CARTRIDGES SHIPPING!

Usenet is reporting Users have recieved their Orb cartridges that have been on order. I one case, a user got all 10 of his carts shipped today.

And UltraSCSI Orb is due to ship on Monday, March 15. Let's hope the date holds. My SCSI Orb is going to get quite a workout--with disks that cost only $29 each for a whopping 2.2 Gigs!

Jaz is a rip-off.
