I didn't say that GDP numbers aren't important. They just don't have much impact on eBay right now, nor will they for a very long time. What is happening here is that the Internet is becoming the medium for more and more purchases, and that the rate of growth (for the Internet) will be strong for many, many years to come. Amazon is certainly taking away some business from Barnes and Noble, but Amazon also has more people buying books now than were a few years ago. Also, I can't see how improving the efficiency of business is going to hurt, especially in the long term.
