SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Two of the West Coast's leading clothing makers for young people said Monday they're teaming up to form a new company.

Pacific Sunwear (PSUN) and Vans (VANS) plan to set up Van Pac, a limited liability company that will be 51 percent owned by Vans and 49 percent owned by Pacific Sunwear.

The clothing created by the joint venture will initially be available only in the companies' store. But in a release, the companies added they may eventually sell the products elsewhere.

Both of the companies make "West Coast style" clothing, with Vans best known for its skateboarding shoes. Pacific Sunwear produces baggy shorts and knit hats mostly for Gen-Xers.

Shares of Vans added 1/2 to 6 3/4, while Pacific Sunwear's stock rose 1/2 to 32.

Pacific Sunwear shares have more than doubled so far this year. The stock has been boosted by better-than-expected earnings from the Anaheim, Calif.-based company as well as its plan to sell items online. See release<<
