With its growing prominence in the online trading sector, E*Trade today announced it is starting a $150 million venture capital fund targeted at investments in new trading technologies.

"E*Trade plans to continue to expand its position in relevant emerging businesses and new technology platforms to ensure we achieve our long-term vision of global leadership in electronic personal financial service," said E*Trade chief executive Christos M. Cotsakos.

The company also appointed two new executives, tapping Thomas Bevilacqua to be executive vice president of corporate development and general counsel, and Stephen Richards as senior vice president of corporate development and new ventures.

Bevilacqua, a partner of the San Francisco law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, is a securities and corporate law expert in the areas of high-tech venture capital investments and mergers & acquisitions.

Richards will oversee E*Trade's initiatives in Electronic Communications Networks (ECN) to maximize the value of the company's recent investments in the Archipelago ECN and International Securities Exchange (ISE), the first fully electronic options exchange. He will also evaluate other opportunities to integrate advanced electronic trading platforms into the company's global strategy.

"These two appointments, as well as our new Venture Fund, are designed to further position E*Trade as an industry leader and innovator in advanced technologies and new emerging e-commerce markets," Cotsakos added.

Some additional instructions that might help you auth and join the new #Daytraders. See this post for more info:

************
Instructions for changing your password:
First, you must be authed to change the password. To change the password you use
when you auth with #Daytraders, type the following command in any window (preferably
the status window so that if you make a mistake other users will not see your
password):
/msg dt newpass idnick mynewpass

Example: Your nick was George and you specified the password of 'spring' when you
performed the 'addme' command, and you want to change the password to 'fall' you
would type:

/msg dt auth George spring
/msg dt newpass George fall

You are all set.

Instructions for automating Mirc to join #Daytraders on the Othernet network.
There are two methods you can use. One is to place the commands in the 'Perform'
section of Mirc which will enable you to automatically join #Daytraders upon logging
on to the Othernet. The second method requires you to hit a Function key (i.e. F3)
to join #Daytraders. Below are instructions for both methods:

------------------------
Function Key method:
The purpose of this method is twofold. One, you may not want to join #Daytraders
everytime you log on to the Othernet network. Two, you may already be on the
Othernet and would like to join #Daytraders without having to type in the auth
command. So, you need to assign this command to a Function Key that is not already
being used. If you don't know if a Function Key is being used, then you probably
aren't running any scripts that assign function keys. So just assign it to function
key F3. Here's how you do that:

1) Click on 'Tools' in the Mirc menu and select 'Aliases' in the popup menu list. A
Box will appear on your screen where you can view the aliases.ini file.
2) In the big box, scroll to the end of the text (yours may be blank which is ok)
and type the following line exactly except replace the word 'password' with your
unique password you used when you performed the 'addme' command and the nick you used
when you performed that command:
/f3 {/msg dt auth idnick password }

For example: If the nick and password you used when you performed the 'addme'
command were George and spring, you would type:

/f3 { /msg dt auth George spring }

Note: It doesn't matter what nick you are logged in as. You will always perform
this command specifying the nick you used when you performed the addme command.

3) Now select 'File' from the menu of the box where you are viewing the aliases file
and then select 'Save all' from the drop down menu list. Your changes are now saved.
4) Click on 'OK'

You are done. Now, to auth with #Daytraders while on the Othernet network, just
press the F3 function key. You should then get a response inviting you to join
#Daytraders. You can then /join #Daytraders. Or, set Mirc to autojoin on invite and
you will automatically join the channel when authed.

To set autojoin on invite in Mirc v5.5:
1) Click on 'File' in the main menu and select 'Options"
2) In the left-hand column under 'Category' click on 'IRC'.
3) Now, on the right hand side, you should see an option to "auto-join channel on
invite"
4) If there is not a checkmark in the little white box next to that text, then click
on it and a checkmark should appear in that box. This is a toggle. So every time you
click on it, it will check or uncheck the box.

You are all set. Next time you auth to #Daytraders, you will automatically join the
channel.

To set autojoin on invite in Mirc v5.4:
1) Click on 'File' in the main menu and select 'Options"
2) Click on the tab that's labeled "Irc switches"
3) Now, in the left hand column, you should see an option to "auto-join channel on
invite"
4) If there is not a checkmark in the little white box next to that text, then click
on it and a checkmark should appear in that box. This is a toggle. So every time you
click on it, it will check or uncheck the box.

You are all set. Next time you auth to #Daytraders, you will automatically join the
channel.

-------------------
Perform method:
This method tells Mirc to automatically execute these commands when you log on to an
irc network such as Othernet. Therefore, everytime you log on to the Othernet
network, you will automatically auth and join the #Daytraders channel. You won't
have to type anything.

For Mirc v5.5 users:
1) Click on 'File' in the main menu and select 'Options"
2) In the left-hand column under 'Category' click on 'IRC'.
3) You should now see more options under 'IRC' in the left-hand column. Click on
'Perform'
4) On the right-hand side, you should now see text at the very top of the box that
says "On connect, perform these commands". If there is not a check mark in the
little white box next to the text, click on it. You should now see a check mark in
that box. This is a toggle. So every time you click on it, it will check or uncheck
the box.
5) Now, in the big white box below that text, scroll to the end of any text that is
there (yours may be blank which is ok) and type the following text in that box
exactly except replace the word 'password' with your unique password you used when
you performed the 'addme' command and the nick you used when you performed that
command:

/msg dt auth idnick password
/join #Daytraders

For example: If the nick and password you used when you performed the 'addme'
command were George and spring, you would type:

/msg dt auth George spring
/join #Daytraders

Note: It doesn't matter what nick you are logged in as. You will always perform
this command specifying the nick you used when you performed the addme command. Make
sure you both commands are on separate lines.

6) Click on 'OK'

You are set. Next time you log on to the Othernet, Mirc should automatically auth
and join you to #Daytraders.

For Mirc v5.4 users:
1) Click on 'File' in the main menu and select 'Options"
2) Click on the tab that's labeled "Perform"
3) In the middle of the dialog box you should now see text that says "On connect,
perform these commands". If there is not a check mark in the little white box next
to the text, click on it. You should now see a check mark in that box. This is a
toggle. So every time you click on it, it will check or uncheck the box.
